The Ottoman Turks were one of the world's largest empires. It was founded by Osman Ghazi (The son of Erturgul Ghazi) in 1922. He conquered many areas and then his son continued their victories. The many controlled most of modern day Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Albania, parts of Europe, as well as North Africa.
They ruled over a Muslim population of some 20 million people. The Turks called themselves "Osmans" because they considered the Byzantines to be the true Muslims and followed the true religion. They were the Muslim rulers of the Turkish lands in Anatolia.
The Rise of the Ottoman Empire :
The Ottomans started to gain power around the middle of the 13th century. In 1299 they conquered the Byzantine Empire and ruled it until the 1453.
In the early days, the Ottomans built up their military strength, slowly expanding their empire until they were able to conquer and rule over a huge territory. The city of Constantinople was their first capital.
The Great Mehmed II :
Sultan Mehmed II was known as the Conqueror. In 1453, he led an army and conquered Istanbul. He was only 21 years old at that time. He moved60 ships towards the Constantinople through the road with the help of his army for this war. Thousands of people were killed from both sides in this war.
The Fall of the Ottoman Empire :
By the year 1800 the last remnants of the Ottoman Empire were reduced to a few isolated provinces.
Then in the year 1922, the Ottomans lost their Empire.
